If you suffer from dental anxiety, you are not alone. For many people, going to the dentist causes nervousness that isn’t easily ignored, and can even sometimes prevent people from getting the care they need. Dr. Nettey-Marbell can help calm your nerves so you can get the treatments you’ve been avoiding.
Also called laughing gas, we use nitrous oxide to help patients feel relaxed while we work. The sweet-smelling gas creates a sense of general well-being while patients stay conscious throughout their visit. Breathing regular air for just a couple of minutes after your procedure completely reverses the effects of the gas.
If you experience severe dental fear or anxiety that prevents you from getting the care you need and deserve, sleep sedation may be the answer you’ve been looking for. The sleep sedation method utilizes a pill we prescribe that you take at a recommended time just before your appointment. Unlike nitrous oxide with which you stay conscious, sleep sedation lulls you into a peaceful sleep that allows us to do all the work you need while you rest. It’s completely safe, but the after effects of this sedation technique could last for the rest of the day and make you feel a little drowsy or out of sorts. You’ll need someone to pick you up from your appointment and make sure you get home safely. A hearty meal and plenty of water along with a good night’s sleep will remedy this.
Has dental anxiety kept you from getting the dental care you need? We can help.
